Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy was unable once again to beat five-time world champion Carissa Moore and was eliminated from the Billabong Pro Pipeline in the quarterfinals.

It was, however, her best result since June 2019, when she also reached the quarter-finals at that year's Margaret River Pro, also losing to Moore.

In his quarterfinal series, Hennessy had his chance to change his fate after hitting a tube in Backdoor in which he walked and was very close to getting out.

The final score was 13,33 (5+8,33) for the Hawaiian and 4,37 (2,67+1,7) for the Costa Rican.

Brisa thus begins the year in fifth position, tied with Malia Manuel, Isabella Nichols and Johanne Defay.

As the fifth stage of the year approaches, Hennessy needs to be in the top 10 to qualify for the second half.

The next stop on the tour is at Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore from February 11-23.
