Based on a good approach in Backdoor surfing, Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy managed to get into the top 16 surfers of the Billabong Pipe Pro, the first stage of the CT that for the first time in history has women in the queen of the wave since the beginning of the tournament.
Hennessy had a poor start to the day, in what was probably the most competitive heat of the tournament, against Moana Jones Wong and Carissa Moore. She placed third with a total of 6,54, Moore came in second with 7,7 and Jones Wong won the heat with 7,77.
In the next heat, against Caroline Marks and Bethany Hamilton (who replaced Steph Gilmore, who is suffering from Covid), Hennessy had a party on the tubes in Backdoor. She won with 10,73, the second best total of the day, leaving Hamilton in second with 8,76 and the best seed, Marks, with 3,7 and out of the event.
The Costa Rican spent time in the Pipe lineup to compete in the Triple Crown and showed that time paid off, surfing a 4,67 on her first wave that put her in first place and then discarding that score with 5,33 and 5,4 thanks to good barrels at Backdoor.
Now, in the round of 6, she will face the young Hawaiian, a rookie on the tour, Gabriela Bryan. Their match will be in series XNUMX.
