Both Brisa Hennessy and Alonso Correa achieved the best result in the history of a Latin American surfer in Olympic surfing, both finishing in fourth place.
Correa was first unable to beat Kauli Vaast, who finished as the event champion, and was then surpassed by Gabriel Medina.
Brisa, meanwhile, fell first to Tatiana Weston Webb, who finished second, and then to Johanne Defay. The event was won by the current world champion, Caroline Marks.
Brisa could not hide her sadness at the result in the mixed zone, but said she was proud to represent her country and reflected: “For the boys and girls who have challenges, I tell them to have strength and keep going, because that's life. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, there's rain too.”
He also said that he did not see Tatiana in the priority situation, he thought that Tatiana did not want the wave.
Then, in the battle for bronze, he said he didn't even realize he had paddled out for a wave and lost priority against Defay and that his board felt a little short.
