A 52-year-old British tourist died last Saturday while learning to surf in the waves of El Palmar de Vejer de la Frontera, in Cadiz, Spain, several local media and surfers reported on social media.

The man was apparently playing with his niece on a surfboard and was swept in by a strong current. A surfer who was there first rescued the niece, then returned to look for him and once on the beach they gave him first aid but were unable to revive him.

On May 18, a similar situation occurred with a surfer on a beach in Galicia, with a surfer with little experience who died after being swept away by a current.

The man's identity was not released.

English media report that the man was skilled in swimming.
