Brisa Hennessy's passage to the quarterfinals today, played in the challenger of Hossegor, France, practically guaranteed the Costa Rican reclassification to the CT.

Hennessy now has at least 16500 points, which comes from third place in the Sydney Challenger in 2020, fifth place in Ericeira last week and this result in Hossegor.

She can also take the lead in the rankings, which is currently held by Hawaiian Gabriela Bryan, only if she wins the tournament, since Bryan has 21500 points to her name.

On the other hand, it plays in favor of Costa Rica that almost all of her close rivals, Bryan herself, Luana Silva, Pauline Ado, Ariane Ochoa, Betty Lou Sakura, Macy Callaghan, Coco Ho, among others, have already been eliminated from the tournament.

The young talent Caitlin Simmers, fifth in the ranking, remains in the competition and will face 12th place, Vahine Fierro.

Three who are in the running and could surpass Hennessy in the rankings, only if they win, are young Alyssa Spencer, Molly Picklum and Vahine Fierro.

Spencer will be Brisa's rival in the quarterfinals.

The other surfers in the competition, Dimity Stoyle, Sawyer Lindblad and India Robinson, could not surpass Hennessy even by winning the tournament.

For this year's challenger ranking, the competitors' best performance in 2020 and the four events of this year are considered: US Open, Ericeira, Hossegor and Haleiwa. Of these five tournaments, three will be added for the final ranking.

The Haleiwa Championships will take place from November 26 to December 7.
