Carlos has been able to master with class some of the heaviest waves on the planet, but when it comes to diapers and calming a crying baby, several brave people have been able to step aside. This has not been the case for the Costa Rican who has already said that he is giving his all in his new task.

Have you ever changed a diaper in your life? How do you feel about the task?
I think I may have helped someone change a diaper once, but I almost threw up and left it at that. But now that the task is mine, I feel capable, it all comes with maturing.

What do you know about everything that comes with having a child?
I have several friends who have had babies in the last few years and I have been there for them! I know that they require a lot of care and that they sleep less and less, so they end up with late nights.

A new stage begins for me! I also know that they take up a lot of the mother's time in the first months, and well, I personally like babies and I think I'm up to the task! Although there is always that fear, as well as excitement for the change. I'm sure that those who are about to begin parenthood know what I'm talking about. For now, I hope that she comes out strong and healthy, I think I'm going to be in love with her!

It must be difficult to travel and compete, bearing in mind that your little girl could come at any moment. How do you take it? Does it give you extra motivation?
Without a doubt, whatever God wants, but I do ask Him to let me arrive in time for the birth, since it could come earlier and I don't want to miss it. On the other hand, It's an extra motivation! In the heats and in life, everything is now for her!

It's been four years since you came close to making the CT, but you're young! How does it feel to finally make it happen this year?
Honestly, it's been pretty hard to come to Hawaii and leave empty-handed for several years now. This year I feel very motivated with the birth of my little girl to give it my all in each series. God's timing is perfect, you just have to keep fighting and not give up, we're going all out this year!

You got a 10 at the Volcom Pipe Pro which was crazy, tell us how it went!
It was a dream right! I think I was quite focused because that heat was quite difficult, Marco Giorgi hit his bombs and Ezekel (Lau) let go on a left and got a 9,5. And then he came back and with priority he went on the next left. When I turned around there was the right, it looked a bit bad because it had a bit of foam, so it took me a while to decide.

When I went, I went down, pumped three times, I was already getting ready for the impact of the wave, and the board crossed the foamball, after that I controlled myself and went back up… I knew it was a 10!

I felt like celebrating, but everything happened too fast. When I got out I took a series with about seven waves in my head, and when I got back in the series was already over. I was happy to have passed that series and to have been able to surf those tubes at Pipeline, which is incredible.

You lost your main sponsor a while ago, how has life been since then?
Losing the official sponsorship was quite difficult, 11 years and having to say goodbye after everything we had built together. A very sad time, but one of a lot of personal growth. You think about the moments from your beginnings, from the first time you used stickers, the process, the moments of obstacles, the magical moments, the mistakes, if I had done this or that, in short, you grow up!

Do you have anything to say about the fact that you need a main sponsor?
And I am humbly open to sponsorship proposals. I really want to work, I feel like surfing better than before and I am going to be a father. My goal is to be the first Latino (not Brazilian) to enter the CT and also to reach the Olympics.
