Callinan and Benji Brand won the trials and entered the Pipe Masters

This is how the series for the definition of the 2018 world title were determined, which everything indicates begins today

Australian Ryan Callinan won the Pipe Masters trials yesterday and guaranteed himself a spot in the most prestigious surfing event in the world, the Pipe Masters, which is expected to begin today.

Benji Brand, originally from South Africa but now living in Hawaii, came in second and took the home spot. In third place and as first alternate was another Hawaiian, Torrey Meister, and in fourth place was Australian Soli Bailey.

The day was showing a clear improvement in the waves as the waves passed. At the beginning there were many maneuvering waves but then good tubes appeared which announced that there will be some good waves for today.

There were times when maneuvers were key to advancing the series, but the sea improved and at other times there were good tubes. Callinan applied both strategies to win.
Kalani David replaced Tanner Hendrickson after the latter was suspended for inciting violence in an altercation with Michael Rodrigues.
Australian Ethan Ewing had been surfing very, very well but was stopped by a falling lip that injured his ankle. He had to withdraw from the competition and qualified for the semi-finals.
As is often the case, Mason Ho did not shine in competitions as he does in his videos.
