Thirteen-year-old Candelaria Resano achieved a solid third place in the women's Pipe event last Tuesday in a solid sea with two meters of waves.
The young girl from Popoyo beat none other than Bethany Hamilton in the quarter-finals, who is one of the greatest Pipe specialists.
The event was won by Gabriela Bryan, Melanie Bartels came second and Luana Silva came fourth.
Her sister, Valentina, was doing well in the event but decided not to continue competing after hitting her face on the reef and needing seven stitches to heal.
Candelaria comes from winning a stage of the NSSA in the south of the island, in Kewalos.
