And the prize came with a free car.
Nicaraguan surfer Candelaria Resano was chosen as athlete of the year 2025 by her country's Olympic committee at a gala held yesterday in Managua, according to the competitor's social media accounts and the aforementioned institution.
Resano, the country's surfing federation, and its sponsoring brands echoed the news: "Surfing at its peak!" they exclaimed, explaining that the award "is due to its many achievements this year. We thank those who supported us in 2025, and in 2026 we're aiming for even more."
For winning the Candelaria prize, she received a brand new car which she started up during the gala.
Among other good results such as winning stages of the ALAS, Candelaria won the Central American sports games that took place in the waves of El Hawaii, Guatemala.
On the other hand, at the male level, Yeferson López won as best surfer of the year.
