Carissa Moore won her fifth world title
Tatiana Weston took the Hawaiian to the third heat and came close, but fell on the wave that could have given Brazil its first women's title
With a timid performance, clearly affected by the pressure that comes with the WSL finals, Carissa Moore won her fifth world title today at Lower Trestles, after beating Tatiana Weston Webb in a very close third final.
It was so close that if the Brazilian had not fallen on her last maneuver on her last wave, the story would have been different. The final score was 16,6 to 14,2.
It was clear to Moore that the pressure was playing tricks on him.
Early in the finals, Weston Webb surfed with his powerful backside to force the third final, winning by 15,20 to 14,06. Moore then recovered by scoring 17,26 to 15,6.
When the series concluded, Moore exclaimed, “Number five feels great!” and took the opportunity to thank his team, saying he would have succumbed to the pressure if it weren’t for them.
