Carlos Goncalves, Joaquín del Castillo and Miguel Tudela finishing and starting the year well in Pipe
There were days of much action in Mecca and Peru and Ecuador left their mark on the swellazo
Pipeline ended 2019 in epic fashion and started it in the same way, and the Ecuadorian Carlos Goncalves and the two Peruvians, Joaquín del Castillo and Miguel Tudela, were among the protagonists of some of the best days of recent years in the queen of the waves.
The first were Joaquín and Cabezón, on December 31st the Peruvian who landed a big one on the first reef, he bottomed just enough to fit under the lip and disappear completely in a bomb.
On a day when the sea was quite rough, people on the beach started screaming when Joaquín got into the tube and when he came out they exploded in cheers and applause.
“Last tube of my 2019, grateful for everything that is happening to me,” wrote Joaquín on his Instagram.
For his part, Carlos got off a giant one, got into the pocket and was covered by a cavern from which he emerged intact: "Yesterday was fun," the Ecuadorian wrote on his social networks.
The next day, yesterday, the first day of 2020, the sea calmed down and at times was magical; some say it was one of the best in years.
In the afternoon, the Peruvian found a magical wave. Those who were closer to the second reef didn't get to get in and he was the first in line on the first reef. The wave bent with power and Miguel held the drop required to get into the tube and get out of the beast. It wasn't a very deep tube but it was very powerful and big. The interesting thing is that to finish he sent a very high aerial that in any US Open would have been worth 9 points.
“A great way to start the year,” Miguel wrote on Instagram, sharing his wave.
The Peruvians are waiting for the waiting period to begin for the Backdoor Shootout, in which they will make their historic debut with a 100% Inca team made up of Tudela and Del Castillo and Álvaro Malpartida, Cristobal de Col and Gabriel Villarán.
