Carlos Muñoz made it to the quarterfinals in Haleiwa and is close to the CT

In second place was a series of heart-stopping events that were decided on the beach; Ian Gouveia needed 4,8 and they gave him 4,17

Costa Rican Carlos Muñoz just had a heart-stopping series at the Hawaiian Pro, securing himself a place in the quarterfinals of the event and the best partial result in the QS of his entire career.

The heat was decided on the sand after Ian Gouveia needed 4,84 and was given just under to allow Cali to advance along with Adrian Buchan. Minutes earlier, trying to stop the Brazilian from taking a wave, Muñoz sent himself into a 12-foot bomb, did not complete the drop and ended up losing his competition rashguard.

The results were given in the arena and the Costa Rican was seen to be very focused on his task.

He is now guaranteed at least 3600 points, which, considering the 1550 points discarded, means he will reach 15.900 in the ranking, which is still not enough to qualify but leaves him one series away from crossing the 17000 barrier or a similar result at Sunset Beach.

If he makes it through one more series in Haleiwa, Carlos will guarantee himself at least 17400, which would give him a very good chance of making it to the CT. If he makes it to the final, he would have 18400 (if he places fourth in the tournament), which would virtually make it very difficult for him not to make it into the 2020 elite.

Either way, the 15900 points he has already secured make this his best QS campaign of his career.

In the quarterfinals, they will face Ethan Ewing, Wade Carmichael and the second of the series between Freestone, Devries and Lightfoot.
