Costa Rican Carlos Muñoz was confirmed for the Billabong Pro Pipe after Moroccan Ramzi Boukhiam withdrew from the event due to injury, the WSL reported on its social networks.
The Costa Rican will face Kelly Slater and Caio Ibelli in Series 8, Round 1.
Boukhiam had injured his ankle on January 22 at Pipe, coming out of the water with a heavy load and leaving the question of what would happen.
She then fell silent, showing up at the WSL awards wearing an orthopedic boot but not clarifying whether she would compete at Pipe or not.
Muñoz traveled to the North Shore on January 26, not knowing if he would compete at Pipe or not. The Costa Rican received the first replacement spot from the WSL for all events of the year.
