Carlos Muñoz will not be at CT 2020

The result in his series against Jacob Willcox sparked controversy on social media

Carlos Muñoz's campaign to qualify for the CT 2020 did not have a happy ending. Due to a controversial 0,53, the Costa Rican was unable to advance in his round 4 series of the tournament. He finished 17th, adding 2300 points that left him with 16.000 points in the final ranking.

Muñoz had a couple of very close chances in his series to seal his passage but he fell, one was in a tube that he did not complete and the other was in a second maneuver in which he fell.

The series had and still has its touch of controversy because the judges gave Australian Jacob Willcox a 4,9 on a single-manoeuvre wave that was not so risky.

CT member Jessé Mendes and North Shore spotter Liam McNamara wrote that they scored that particular wave wrong, and seeing the 0,53 difference, it would have changed everything.

Carlos has not yet expressed himself on social media about the event.

In an interview with DUKE prior to the Triple Crown, the Costa Rican said that if things did not work out: “If that doesn't happen, there's a lot of motivation for next year, to give 200% and try to give even harder."

With the updated ranking, Carlos Muñoz finished the tour in 20th position. The best result of his career in the QS, the best even for a Hispanic-American man in the history of the sport.

For his part, Alonso Correa of Peru also lost in round 4, proving once again that he achieves results in Hawaiian waters.
