Carlos and Brisa went straight to round 3 at the CT in Portugal
The Costa Rican sent the best in history, Kelly Slater, to the elimination round and now awaits his opponent; Hennessy will go against Sophie McCulloch
Costa Ricans Carlos Muñoz and Brisa Hennessy placed second in their first round heats of the third stage of the CT that began today in Supertubos Portugal.
This result catapulted Carlos directly into the round of 32 and Brisa into the round of 16. While the Costa Rican is waiting for the results of the elimination round to find out who he will face, Hennessy already knows that he will face Sophie McCulloch in the eighth round.
This is the first time they have faced each other.
Muñoz was in the first heat of the day and was quick to put pressure on his rivals, Kelly Slater and Ethan Ewing. With 12 minutes in a 30-minute heat he already created his final score of 8,67 (3,5+5,17). Slater surfed a four-point wave but found no support and on the other side Ewing found bigger waves that he attacked with his characteristic cuts to go through first with 11,1 (5.33+5,77).
For her part, Brisa quickly found a good right in which she combined two turns with an attack at the end and another in which she made a strong single maneuver to add 10,5 (4,83 + 5,67) which was just 0,26 worse than Conlogue's score. In third place in the series was Lakey Peterson, who is always a direct place for the Costa Rican.
Then, in the elimination round, the aforementioned Californian, seventh in the world ranking, was eliminated and became one of the surprises of the event along with the defeat of the 3rd in the ranking, Tyler Wright.
The event is expected to continue tomorrow at Supertubos with a similar forecast to today.
