Carlos couldn't beat Ibelli and accumulated a third consecutive 17 in the CT
This is the situation of the Costa Rican in the ranking, the good and the bad of what is going on in the Portuguese tournament
Carlos Muñoz finished the third stage of the CT 2023 in seventeenth position, after losing in his round of 32 series to Brazilian Caio Ibelli.
This is Carlos' third consecutive 17th, a result he got at Pipe and Sunset. Now the Costa Rican has two stages left, Bells and Margaret River, in which he will have to do better if he wants to be in the classification zone for the mid-year cutoff.
Carlos managed to land a 180 blow tail at the start of the series that earned him a 3,6 and then followed it up with a 3,63 tube and then a 4,67 tube. But a very different story was written for Caio Ibelli who started taking many waves without capitalizing until he came out with a tube that was worth 8,67 and left the Costa Rican needing a perfect score that never came.
As far as rankings go, Muñoz had some results in his favor at the event with Huscenot and Lau losing and staying below him in the rankings. Also Kolohe Andino lost in the elimination round and this will make Carlos overtake him (they were tied at 24th).
The results that were not in his favor were that Samuel Pupo who was tied and Connor O'Leary who was below him in the ranking will now surpass him because they made it to the round of 16. Barron Mamiya, Jackson Baker and Michael Rodrigues remain to compete and are tied with Carlos at 24.
