Caroline Marks is the new world champion
She is the first goofy footer to win the title since 2005; Carissa Moore once again succumbed to the pressure
That razor-sharp backside from Caroline Marks took her from third in the rankings to the world championship today at the WSL Finals contested on the maneuverable waves of Lower Trestles.
The goofy footer from Florida made history by becoming the first goofy footer to be world champion since Chelsea Georgeson in 2005 and breaking the hegemony that three surfers had held since 2007: Carissa Moore, Tyler Wright and Stephanie Gilmore.
Moore herself, who led the year by a lot, succumbed to the pressure once again, as happened last year, and was unable to connect with the surfing that characterizes her.
The final was decided by 17,10 to 14,97 in match 1 and 14,6 to 13,53 in match 2.
Prior to the grand final, Marks defeated Caitlin Simmers in round 2 and Tyler Wright in round 3.
She will travel to Paris 2024 as the top seed at the event that will take place in Teahupoo.
