The Chilean surfing team for the youth world championship in El Salvador was announced last Saturday with the big news that only under-18 surfers will travel and no members of the under-16 team, as mandated by the Chilean Olympic Committee (COCH).

As they explained in the post on Instagram: “This is a project managed by the COCH and is aimed at promoting only junior athletes with projection for Santiago 2023. Although the World Cup is for the Under 16 and Under 18 categories, the COCH decided to call up only athletes in the Under 18 category, considering the results and statistics of the Under 16 category in the 2022 South American Championship in Argentina.”

“The objectives for this World Cup are to activate the competitive preparation of the U-18 athletes with a projection for Santiago 2023, to visualize in a competitive scenario the current level of the athletes with respect to the international level and to provide information on the technical and tactical training processes that Fechsurf is currently developing,” they add.

The surfers summoned are the following:

Women:
Estela Lopez (Puertecillo Club)
Hope Rojas (Club Akua)
Sofia Driscoll (Club Akua)

Men:
Noel de la Torre (Club Maitencillo)
Kuhane Pacomio (Rapa Nui Surf Club)
Victor Cortes (Club Akua)

-National Shortboard Head Coach: Gerald Álvarez
-National Coach: Francisco Véliz.
-Delegate: Patricia Albornoz - Fechsurf President

The youth world championship will be held in the waves of La Bocana and El Sunzal between May 27 and June 5.
