Buscaolas, a Chilean weather camera and forecast website, will close next month.

“Operating costs and increasing competition have led us to make this difficult decision,” they say in a letter.

Buscaolas, a Chilean wave camera and reporting website, announced in a statement sent to its users that it will be ending operations on April 15.

In a letter signed by the person presumed to be its manager, Bruno F, sent to its subscribers and obtained by DUKE, he writes: “It has been an incredible journey with this community of surfers and ocean lovers, and we are deeply grateful for all the support over the years. From the beginning, our dream was to help local ocean communities grow, to connect all ocean lovers with the best waves, and to protect our beaches. However, operating costs and increasing competition have led us to make this difficult decision.”

“As a thank you, all our premium users will receive a free month starting today, so they can continue enjoying Buscaolas until the very end. Thank you for being part of this adventure, for every wave shared, and for helping us make this space special. See you at sea!”

South America has seen an explosion of cam sites, with players like Mis Olas, Lineup, Surfplace Perú, Surfview, Surf Connect, and others, while the global giant in the field, Surfline, has remained completely out of the region.
