Chilean Federation asks surfers to “stay calm”

And invites clubs and leaders to join forces to create a new board of directors

The Chilean surfing federation asked “all surfers to remain calm, those who are part of the pre-selections and were not nominated, those who are not part of any of the federation processes and those who practice free surfing,” in a statement published yesterday after 10 surfers who are part of high-performance programs were allowed to surf.

The request comes at a time of upheaval in Chilean surfing, with several of the main figures calling for change and calling for a new board of directors.

"We know that there are many people who deserve the permit, but for now this first step is in accordance with the State's protocol and regulations," they added.

They also refer to the process of changing authorities and invite clubs, their leaders and athletes to join forces for a #NuevaFechsurf, “on the verge of the 2020 election process, which will define the executive representatives who will face the most important multi-sport competition that our country has ever hosted; such as the Pan American and Para Pan American Games Santiago 2023”.

"We would like to inform you that, within the federation's activities for the second semester, a participatory process of building the strategic bases that will guide the development of national surfing towards the next Olympic Cycle in Paris 2024 is being considered," they added.

And they conclude: “We have extended the invitation and we join the statements of national surfing leaders who are committed to sporting excellence, respect and participation.”

Federation president Paula Muñoz was contacted by DUKE to comment on the situation facing surfing in her country but did not respond to messages sent via WhatsApp.
