Clemente, Pérez and Robbins are already qualified for Santiago 2023
They qualify through the World Championships regardless of their result from now on; Brazil will also qualify a surfer; this result puts Cortez, Amado de Jesús and Agustín Cedeño in the Pan American Championships
Special coverage presented by Surf City - El Salvador Travel
Peruvian Piccolo Clemente, Argentine Martín Pérez and American Cole Robbins qualified for Santiago 2023 through the longboard world championship, according to calculations made by DUKE.
No matter where they stand in their next heat, of the 12 surfers left in the competition, seven are from outside the Pan American region and two of those who are are Brazilian, Carlos Bahía and Rodrigo Sphaier, who will have to fight each other to qualify for the Pan American.
In other words, of the four available spots to go to the Pan American Games in the highest-ranking event (this one), there is no way that those three do not go to the aforementioned surfers.
The fact that Clemente and Brazil qualified through the World Cup, which is of higher hierarchy than the Pan American, opened the door for Chilean Rafael Cortez to qualify individually (he was the second best fifth - the best fifth was Sphaier who does not use that slot because his compatriot Bahia made the final).
Since Cortez uses the host nation slot, the slot drops one more place and is left to Amado de Jesús Alvarado and the Panamanian Agustín Cedeño.
Thus, those qualified for Santiago 2023 in men's longboard are the following:
Through the World Cup:
Or Carlos Bahía or Rodrigo Sphaier from Brazil
Little Clemente (PER)
Martin Perez (ARG)
Cole Robbins (USA)
Through the Pan American:
Julian Schweizer (URU)
Anthony Flores (CRC)
Beloved of Jesus Alvarado (ESA)
Augustin Cedeno (PAN)
Host Country Slot
Rafael Cortez (CHI)
