Coco Cianciarulo and Raúl Ríos were runners-up in the Pro Junior of Floripa
Argentina and Peru made the podium in Brazil
Argentina's Coco Cianciarulo and Peru's Raúl Ríos placed second in the highly competitive WSL JQS held last weekend on the waves of Joaquina, Florianópolis.
Cianciarulo went through three competitive heats against some of the best in South America until she met Brazilian Isabela Saldanha in the grand final, beating her by 8,65 to 6,75.
For his part, Raúl Ríos went through five series until he met the relatively unknown Brazilian, Heitor Muller, who beat him by 15,30 to 13,15.
“I tried to win until the end, I was super focused but there are things we can’t control, but I’m happy with this result,” Raúl Ríos told the WSL. “This was my first final this year and I know I can do more, so I’m going to work hard to achieve that in the next stages. The last stage is going to be in Máncora, which is a beach I know well, where I surf almost every day, so I’m going to try to win there at home.”
Cianciarulo commented: “Obviously I would have liked to have won the championship but Isabela surfed very well and what is important is that I was able to surf good waves and that was my first pro junior final at just 15 years old. So for me this is an incredible result that I am very happy about.”. There are still two stages left so I'm going all out, although the most important thing is to have fun, like I did here, that's how the results come."
Sol Aguirre also competed, finishing fifth and losing her second position in the rankings (which qualifies for the WSL Junior World Championships), which is now occupied by Brazilian Julia Duarte.
