The Peruvian Cristóbal de Col, the Chilean Guillermo Satt and Puerto Rican Dwight Pastrana had very good performances today on the first day of the Volcom Pipe Pro and made it to round 3 of the event after coming out of some good epic tubes that broke in the queen of the waves.
De Col was the first to go into the water and started his series very actively, he took several waves, made a base of about five points but took off after landing a nice tube in Pipe that the judges awarded with 6, catapulting him to first place.
He left Mikey O'Shaughnessy in second, Remy Jubori in third and Wolf Wertheimer in fourth.
In the next series, Guillermo Satt looked like he was going to be out of the event, but with two and a half minutes left, he made good use of the priority to take a bomb, sink the tube and go out at 200 per hour to do a couple of maneuvers in celebration.
The bad news for Chile was that with that wave, Nico Vargas, who was second, moved up to third. Despite this, with the countdown ringing, needing a 1,5, he got a good one, got a roof and did a cutback. announcers gave it to him but the judges didn't.
The next series had a very inspired Dwight Pastrana who resumed the performances he had at the beginning of the season and got a couple of good tubes to move into second place with 8,03 (5,33 + 2,7) total.
In third place in that series was Peruvian Gabriel Villarán, who had his chance in a bomb from which he could not escape. In fourth place was Sage Tutterow.
The tournament ended in series 11 and therefore Álvaro Malpartida and Tomás López Moreno, who are ranked in the same series (14), remained to compete.
With these results, the Spanish-speaking round 3 series were as follows:
-Alan Cleland will face Josh Burke, Hinata Aizawa and Nathan Florence
-Cristóbal de Col will face Mitch Coleborn, Jerónimo Vargas and Makana Pang
-Leandro Usuna and Guille Satt will be in the same series against Phillipe Chagas and Michael O'Shaughnessy
-Dwight Pastrana will face Cooper Davies, Eala Stewart and Jett Schilling
-Manuel Selman waits for a rival but knows he will face Kiron Jabour and Kalani Rivero.
Marco Giorgi, Joaquín del Castillo, Miguel Tudela and Aritz Aranburu await two rivals in round 4.
