Peruvians Cristobal de Col and Miguel Tudela and Spaniard Aritz Aranburu made it to round 5 of the Volcom Pipe Pro, which was contested today on solid, mainly Backdoor waves in the queen of waves.
Like yesterday, it was a day where finding the waves was not easy, but unlike yesterday, several gems came in, including a 10 from Seba Zietz, a 9,5 from Jack Robinson, among other high scores and excellent series. One of these was from the Argentine Tomás López Moreno, who beat Mason Ho with a 15,9 thanks to two tubes at Backdoor.
De Col and Tudela went one-two against Carlos Muñoz (who left the event early) and Liam O'Brien. The two Peruvians were quick to find waves for Pipe; the best was De Col's, who came out of a good tube that was worth 7,17.
Aranburu, meanwhile, was effective in finding two good tubes on Backdoor and finding the exit; he totaled 15,54 and did not win the heat because Billy Kemper was more inspired. He eliminated last year's finalist Cam Richards and standout Mitch Coleborn.
Alvaro Malpartida, Joaquín del Castillo and finally Tomás López Moreno, the Hispanics remaining in the event, said goodbye in low-scoring series.
The event will conclude either tomorrow or the day after, the webcast said, with expectations of good waves and a possible epic morning on Wednesday.
-Aranburu will face Tyler Newton, Josh Moniz and Benji Brand
-De Col will face Reef Hazelwood, Wyatt McHale and Balaram Stack
-And Miguel Tudela will battle against Kyus King, Keanu Asing and Nolan Rapoza.
