Salvadoran Bryan Pérez and Nicaraguan Candelaria Resano will compete in Paris 2024 occupying the universal place, the ISA has just announced in a post on Instagram.
“Today, ISA President Fernando Aguerre announced the IOC’s approval of the ISA proposal for the two universal quota places for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Candelaria Resano from Nicaragua and Bryan Pérez from El Salvador,” the statement said.
This week ISA CEO Bob Fasulo told DUKE that they were hoping for IOC confirmation by the end of May but it appears that it has been brought forward.
The universal spot is awarded to nations that have participated in Tokyo 2020 with up to seven competitors in all events and that are also in the top 50 at the World Surfing Games, requirements that both Resano and Pérez had met.
They also demonstrated on a trip to Tahiti that they were capable of surfing the wave.
On his social networks, the Salvadoran shared the ISA post saying: "A dream come true."
