Construction of a Surf Ranch in Tokyo begins in September

Slater's pool will be built in 2019 near where the surfing event for the Olympic Games is planned. However, it is officially known that the event will be held in the sea.

A surf ranch will be established in Kisarazu City, Chiba, in 2019, local media reported after a meeting was held with local residents.

According to the report, “a company supervised by a famous surfer founded a Japanese corporation and began the preliminary work (…) Once completed, it will be able to hold a full-scale competition and will host a professional global scale stage.”

The preliminary construction occupies 57 hectares near the Tisayama route. The pool will be 580 meters long and 150 meters wide, generating waves up to two meters high, according to local media.

Construction would begin in September, end in December, and be operational between January and March.

It is clear, and has been reported ad nauseam, that the ISA, the organizers and the IOC plan to hold the Olympic surfing event on the Shida Shita waves in Chiba.

It is also clear that in the interests of the WSL, having the pool up and running as soon as possible in Tokyo and showing it to the authorities could end up being a goal from the middle of the field.

And, whatever the case, the noise generated around this construction favors the interests of the world surfing league.

Leaving aside these arguments and based on what has been officially said: The surfing test will be held in the ocean and for this to change, a lot of steps already taken by the IOC, the local organization and the ISA would have to be overcome.
