The rural town of Lemoore, California, 250 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, is becoming a surfing capital away from the ocean, according to a local newspaper The Sentinel, the local government granted the Kelly Slater Wave Company permission to build two new pools, the right to open to the public, sell food and drinks and hold six surfing tournaments a year.

According to the note, 8000 people are expected to attend each of these upcoming tournaments per day, as opposed to the 5000 expected to attend the Founders Cup on May 5 and 6.

This new cycle of expansions, which is expected to last until 2026, will include, in addition to the above, a wave operations building with offices and conference rooms, a high-performance training center and a multipurpose building.

Permission has been granted for concerts and for visitors to camp. Some of the contracted services may include traffic control, security, temporary lighting, water, restrooms and garbage collection services.

In other words, Lemoore is becoming a second Huntington Beach, but far from the ocean.

The Founders Cup, which will take place on May 5 and 6, will be joined by the Surf Ranch Open, which will take place between September 6 and 9.
