Costa, Cosoleto and Mulanovich dominated the debut of the ladies in the QS of Mar del Plata
Argentina is the majority in round 2 of the women's event with seven of 16 surfers still alive in the event
The sea was lower than expected at Playa Grande today for the second day of the Rip Curl Pro. The organizers decided to wait until midday to start the event, hoping that the tide would help the sea to improve.
The decision did not change the scene much, but it was a pleasant afternoon, with the sun shining, the beach filling up and very inconsistent waves but several moments of brilliance. Yanca Costa from Brazil was the protagonist of the main event, scoring 14,75 on average, the highest of the event and with the best wave of the two categories (8,25). The local Lucía Cosoletto showed the best of her powerful backside and scored 13,35 (7,50+5,85), which was the second best total of the day.
For her part, Sofía Mulanovich, a specialist in solid and tubular waves, found in Argentina very small waves but also a good competitive strategy and good surfing. “It's been a while since I surfed such small waves,” she said when she got out of the water. She came in first after facing her friend Ornella Pellizzari (ARG).

Finally, in the category of victims of inconsistency was the Brazilian Tainá Hinckel, vice-champion of the junior South American championship, who finished her series needing 2,20. The visible anger of her coach somewhat marred the pleasant sunny afternoon that ended in Mar del Plata. That series was won by the great local talent of 14 years, Coco Cianciarulo and Evelyn Gontier.
The wave forecast has now become a challenge for the organizers, the swell that was expected for the end of the week has been dissipating, so it seems that the organizers will closely monitor every movement of the sea to see if the call is made or not.
