The teams from Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Spain started their performance very well at the Surf City ISA World Surfing Games that began yesterday Sunday in the waves of La Bocana and El Sunzal.

There were 48 heats, 24 for each gender; the women surfed very fun straights from XNUMX to XNUMX meters in El Sunzal and the men exchanged powerful walls of XNUMX meters in the heats. For La Bocana, more than one said that it was the best day of the latter in that spot.

Peru managed to remain undefeated with the victory of Lucca Mesinas, Daniella Rosas and Sofia Mulanovich in their heats, Costa Rica did the same with Noe Mar and Leilani McGonagle, Carlos Muñoz, Anthony Fillingim and Brissa Hennessy. Meanwhile, Spain entered the second round with Aritz Aranburu, Jonathan González, Ariane Ochoa and Leticia Canales.

The three competitors from Ecuador who went into the water passed their heats: Mimi Barona, Gato Chila and Génesis Borja, who beat none other than the Brazilian representative, Julia Santos.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was Colombia, which made it four out of four. Giorgio, Isabella Gómez, Jefferson Tascón and Margarita Conde made it through their series.

There were more than one series with surprising results, the 2017 world champion, Jhony Corzo of Mexico, lost to Jonathan Gonzalez, Elishama Beckford and Ricardo Delgado.

Australia's Julian Wilson, a member of the CT who has already qualified for Tokyo, scraped through his heat in second place, with Giorgio Gomez winning by a long shot and Dutchman Kaspar Hamminga closing in.

Jeremy Flores, another CT member, also finished second, behind the outstanding Californian Eithan Osborne who represents Israel in the tournament.

With an incredible backside, Noe Mar McGonagle made the best performance in the event, 16,40, only surpassed by Italo Ferreira who marked 16,40.

Among the women, the best performance of the day was by American Alyssa Spencer, who scored 16 points. Sofía Mulanovich and Brissa Hennessy also scored high points, exceeding 13 points in total.

The event will now include round 2 of the main event for women and men, so today, Monday, the 32 undefeated women and the 36 undefeated men will be determined.
