Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy won today the second stage of the CT 2022, the Hurley Pro Sunset, and took the lead in the WSL world rankings.

Hennessy competed with precision, power and intelligence to beat Hawaiian Malia Manuel in the grand final and claim victory.

The result of the decision was: 12,83 (7+5,83) for Brisa and 7,46 (6,33+1,13) for Manuel.

Asked during the live broadcast if she could believe what was happening, Brisa said no. “I have no words, I feel like I have dreamed of this moment and I never thought it was possible,” she said in her first interview after the victory.

Prior to that she had beaten another Hawaiian, Bettylou Sakura Johnson, with greater dominance, after starting the series with a 9 which she then backed up with a six.

The result is historic from any point of view; reaching the final was already the best of Brisa's career, the first Costa Rican in history to enter the CT.

At the continental level, this is the first victory for a Latin American since 2009 when Sofía Mulanovich won the CT that was held in Peru at that time.

The Costa Rican's previous best result had been a third place in Bali in 2019.
