Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy placed fifth in the Hawaiian Triple Crown

John John and Carissa swept the field and took home the trophy


Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy became the first Costa Rican in history to complete a Triple Crown and finish in the top 5, the event's organizers reported on their website.

Hennessy earned a total of 97,9 points out of a possible 180, placing her behind Carissa Moore, Tatiana Weston, Malia Manuel and Bronte Macaulay and leaving behind heavyweight Oahu surfers Coco Ho, Moana Jones and Zoe McDougall, among others.

Haleiwa was where the Costa Rican fared best, scoring 40,6 points out of a possible 60. Sunset was also good, reaching 38 points, and her weakest part was Pipe, where she scored 19,3.

The event, which was held online for the first time, was won with great solidity by Hawaiians John John Florence and Carissa Moore. The former scored a total of 164,5 points and was more than 15 ahead of his runner-up, Californian Griffin Colapinto. The same happened with Moore, who with 134,5 beat Tatiana Weston who scored 119,1.

Florence's performance was close to perfection, the maximum score she could add in her two best waves at Haleiwa, Sunset and Pipe was 180; she made 56,6 + 55,7 + 52,2 in each respective wave.

Meanwhile, Carissa was on par in Haleiwa where she added 54,1, lowered in Sunset with 39,4 and improved in Pipe with 41 points.

At the individual level, wave by wave, the champions were the following:

The public vote was won by Tatiana Weston-Webb in the ladies' category and Jack Robinson in the men's category.
