Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy won the QS in China
This is her second career win on the qualifying tour, which puts her at the top of the rankings to start the year.
Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy has just won the second stage of this year's women's QS, the Corona Open China, a 5000-point event that has already placed her in first place in the classification rankings.
In inconsistent but long and perfect breaking waves at Riyue Bay, Hennessy maintained the good form she showed throughout the event, made her powerful backside attack count and beat Tahitian Vahine Fierro in the final by 12 (5,5 + 6,5) to 11,86 (5,43 + 6,43).
The 5.000 points are worth a lot to Costa Rica since there will only be four of that level throughout the year and four challengers that distribute 10.000 points.
Hennessy emerged from the water carried by her compatriot Leilani McGonagle and her mother.
This is the second victory of her career in the QS, but this was the most important one, in 2018 she had won a 3.000 in South Africa on her way to qualifying for the CT.
On the other hand, the men's category was won by Shun Murakami of Japan who defeated Keanu Asing in the grand final.
Peruvian Lucca Mesinas and Mexican Jhony Corzo left China with a respectable fifth place in the tournament and the top 8 in the QS ranking.
The tour continues for the men through Sunset Beach, which will host a 1000m between the 18th and 28th, and then through Morocco, which will host its first 5.000m starting on the 25th.
For the women, the race continues in Sydney and California, where two 1.000m races will be held simultaneously at the end of the month.
