Crowdfunder launched to help Augusto Villarán

The Peruvian surfer was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia

Legendary Peruvian surfer Gabriel Villarán launched a crowdfunder to help his brother, also a well-known charger from his country, Augusto, who was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia.

According to the crowdfunder's website, "CML is a leukemia or a type of cancer that originates in certain blood-forming cells in the bone marrow. It is a genetic change that occurs in an early version of myeloid cells. This change forms an abnormal gene called BCR-ABL, which turns the cell into a CML cell. The leukemic cells grow and divide, build up in the bone marrow and spread to the blood. CML is a leukemia that grows relatively slowly, but it can transform into a fast-growing acute leukemia that is difficult to treat. So we need to act quickly to stop this from happening and to make my brother the same as before."

Gabriel says that Augusto and his father, the legendary Tallarín Villarán, “taught him the art of surfing” and “introduced him to the world of good, powerful waves.”

“My brother is a Peruvian Legend Who Charges Hard. He has traveled the world surfing throughout his life and if you have ever crossed his path or met him, in or out of the ocean, you will have been able to realize what a good and nice person he is, always willing to share good times, laugh, tell stories, have a good time, meet new people, make friends and always respectful in the line-up,” he adds.
