Cyclone Oma brought storm surge to the Gold Coast and surrounding areas
And the waves will keep pumping for a few more days. Check out the best moments here
This week, Cyclone Oma hit the east coast of Australia, leaving perfect waves for several days. In fact, the waves are still breaking perfectly there and will do so for a few more days. Queensland and northern New South Wales were the places that received the most waves, according to several local media.
The star of the coast was Kirra which had Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning, Wade Carmichael, Laura Enever and Jack Freestone amongst others taking bombs. The latter surfed an impressive 10 second barrel (see below).
Authorities closed areas of beaches on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast due to damage and high tides. There was also flooding, strong currents and beach erosion as a result of the cyclone.
However, Oma also left some big swells that several surfers knew how to take advantage of. Here are some of the best moments captured during these days:
