The ISA SUP and Paddleboard World Championships will be held in the waves and waters of El Sunzal between November 23 and December 1, the International Surfing Association announced today in its official announcement of the tournament.

The official name of the event will be Surf City El Salvador ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship, thus carrying forward the project of the country's new president, Nayib Bukele, to make his country a hub for world surfing.

Sunzal is a point with long and relatively friendly rights, with a deep channel that is expected to allow runs to be made without interference.

El Salvador's Tourism Minister Morena Valdez said, according to the ISA statement: “It is part of a strategy of this government to promote and highlight the excellent surfing destination that our country offers. The waves are one of the most valuable assets of our country, a resource that never runs out and promotes a healthy lifestyle and respect for the environment.”

Meanwhile, President Fernando Aguerre added: “SUP has gained inclusion in key multi-sport games of the Olympic Movement thanks to the efforts of the ISA. Our vision is to continue developing and growing the sport until one day it reaches the world’s biggest sporting stage, the Olympic Games.”

“I look forward to seeing the best in the world compete for gold on the beautiful tropical coast of El Salvador. The perfect waves and beautiful scenery will make it an edition to remember,” he said.
