Declaration of emergency forced the postponement of the Barranca Latin Pro

The tournament has already set a new date for April 17-20

The Latin American Association of Professional Surfers (ALAS) announced through a press release that, due to an emergency decree established by the authorities of the Regional Government of Lima, the Barranca Latin Pro, scheduled for the end of this month, will be postponed to April 17-20.

Authorities have declared a state of emergency in the area due to the high risk of flooding, landslides and high water levels caused by heavy rains affecting highland areas of Peru and putting people in coastal areas at risk, the statement said.

“We abide by the decision of the authorities who are prioritizing the well-being of the population and the visiting athletes and their companions,” said the president of ALAS, Karin Sierralta. “We are always grateful for the support of the Municipality and at the same time we continue to stand firm so that during the Barranca Latin Pro in April we will collect donations of basic necessities for the people affected by the rains in Barranca.”

On the other hand, Luis Fung and Sergio Roncal, organizers of the event, commented: “We are extremely grateful to the people of Barranca for all the expectations that have been generated with the Barranca Latin Pro, but we must be respectful of the recommendations of the Local Government, we want to offer them a first-class show, we must be a little patient, Easter will be an opportune date for this and we are sure that our Barranca will be able to get out of this bad moment that is affecting the entire country, we will continue working hard so that the Barranca Latin Pro is the pride of our area.”
