Peruvian Itzel Delgado, Argentine Santino Basaldela, Costa Rican Jenny Kalmback and Puerto Rican Mariecarmen Rivera won silver and bronze medals respectively in the SUP Race races that closed surfing in Santiago 2023 today.
Finally, it was decided to use a less demanding circuit, on the shore of Punta de Lobos beach, which benefited the agility of the aforementioned rowers and especially the Americans Connor Baxter and Candice Appleby who ended up winning their races.
The result, as in other divisions, was a cold shower especially for Brazil, which saw David Leao finish fourth and defending champion Lena Guimaraes in the middle of the table.
With all divisions closed, the countries that won gold in surfing were the following:
SUP Surfing Men: United States
SUP Surfing Ladies: Colombia
Longboard men: Peru
Longboard ladies: Peru
Shortboard men: Peru
Shortboard ladies: Brazil
SUP Race Men: United States
SUP Race Women: United States
Peru and the United States were the countries that won the most gold medals with three each. If it were based on medals, Peru would have won because it also won silver in the men's SUP Race, bronze in women's SUP Surfing and in men's shortboard.
