Mexicans Diego Cadena and Shelby Detmers won the Mexican trials for the Barra de la Cruz CT yesterday Tuesday, which will take place between August 10 and 19 in the perfect Mexican wave, the organization informed DUKE.

Details regarding the event's final standings have not yet been released.

Depending on the seeding he gives as a wildcard, Cadena will face either the top seed, Gabriel Medina, or the second best, Italo Ferreira and the 24th or 23rd seed respectively.

The series had been published but will be completely changed after John John Florence announced that he will not be at the event.

Detmers, meanwhile, will face Carissa Moore and Bronte Macaulay.

The Mexican was guaranteed at least $9000 (the prize for finishing last) and Cadena at least $8.000.

In 2006, when the first CT event in history was held in Mexico, the only one to date, a trial was also held for the tournament; it was won by Óscar Moncada.

In heat 8 of round 1 the Mexican faced Kelly Slater and Luke Stedman, the result was as follows: Kelly Slater 16.83; Luke Stedman 13.33; Oscar Moncada 11.66.

Then, in round 2, Moncada made life difficult for the third-place finisher, Australian Taj Burrow, who won the series by 16.84 to 13.90.

That 2006 tournament, won by Andy Irons, is still considered to this day as one of the best CTs in history. The conditions at the location, which they wanted to keep secret, were absolutely epic with three or more sections of long and perfect tubes in a sandy and perfect Barra de la Cruz.
