Spaniard Yago Domínguez, Mexican Alan Cleland and Costa Rican Malakai Martínez in the under 18 category along with Panamanian Isauro Elizondo in the under 16 category advanced today to the semifinals of the main event of the Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship and are two steps away from guaranteeing medals today in Huntington Beach.

These four are the only Hispanics in the tournament who remain undefeated, the rest in all categories have already fallen to the play-offs.

Domínguez will now face Tiago Carrique (FRA), Tommy Coleman (USA) and Cristian Portelli (SWE). Meanwhile, Cleland and Martínez will face each other in the same series, in which they will also face Kauli Vaast (TAH) and Guilherme Ribeiro (POR).

Meanwhile, Isauro Elizondo will face Jackson Bunch (HAW), Noa Dupuoy (FRA) and Sho Matsubara (JPN).

Among the ladies, Lucía Machado and Janire González from Spain (copper medalists last year) and Coco Cianciarulo from Argentina looked very good. They competed in their round 3 heats today and made it through. By round 4, they were unable to maintain their level and were sent to the repechage. This left no Hispanic women alive in the main event.

Waves broke again neatly with offshore winds this morning in Huntington Beach.
