Dominic Barona qualified for the challengers and the South American women's draw was finalized

Daniella Rosas "did the favor" again to the Ecuadorian after beating Julia Duarte, the only one who could beat her, a few weeks after what happened in El Salvador

Dominic “Mimi” Barona secured his spot in the WSL Challenger Series after Peru’s Daniella Rosas eliminated Julia Duarte of Brazil, the only competitor still in the event who had a mathematical chance of surpassing the Ecuadorian in the rankings during the QS in Salinas that is currently taking place.

Barona had managed to qualify for Tokyo 2020 after Daniella Rosas did not use her quota for Lima 2019 and qualified for the Olympic Games through the World Championships in El Salvador. A couple of weeks later, the Peruvian was again instrumental in a key qualification for the Ecuadorian.

Duarte needed to win the event so that Barona would not go to the challengers.

The Ecuadorian had been knocked out of the event yesterday in the quarter-finals against Hawaiian Summer Macedo.

Thus, the five South Americans in the challengers are:

Daniella Rosas
Silvana Lima
Josefina Ane
Sol Aguirre
Dominic Barona
