Dominic Barona wins the QS in Bahia and is close to winning the South American title

The Ecuadorian is still in very good form: It is her third victory, fifth final of the season

Ecuadorian Dominic Barona has just added her third victory in a QS event of the year, her fifth final and a new champion's check after winning the Neutrox Weekend, QS 1000 that took place in Itacaré Bahí.

Once again, her weapon for victory was her impeccable backside surfing, which allowed her to execute one stroke after another with fluidity and power. Even though she was judged very stingily by the judges, she scored 11,55. She beat the young Brazilian promise Taina Hinckel, who, despite trying, did not come close to the Ecuadorian, scoring 9,25.

“Itacare has a place in my heart now, it’s a paradise,” said an emotional Barona upon exiting the water. “All the heats were difficult, I came to win them all, I tried to enjoy myself, Taina surfs a lot and the Brazilian girls motivate me a lot to be better,” she added.

Incredibly, the result did not help her improve her QS score, as she already has five scores equal to or greater than 1000 points. However, it did help her improve her South American ranking, which she has almost taken over with three victories and a runner-up position.

There are at least two more stages to be carried out, one in Rio de Janeiro and another in Chile, then there are others in Brazil that have not been confirmed.

It is worth noting that Barona has not achieved significant results in the QS 6000 next year, and that he no longer has room in his ranking line for the QS 1000, and in fact this will not change his score.

On the other hand, if the ALAS stages are added, Barona has six victories in international tournaments and eight finals. The surprise is missing, which would be obtaining the scores in the highest scoring stages.

Final results
1- Dominic Barona
2- Taina Hinckel
3- Karol Ribeiro and Taís Almeida
5- Lucía Indurain, Evelyn Gontier, Monik Santos and Camila Cassia
