Brazilian Yago Dora and American Caitlin Simmers were crowned champions of the Rio Pro today, riding perfect 1.5 metre waves that broke glassy in Itaúna, Saquarema.
Dora beat Ethan Ewing in the grand final with an aerial that was worth 10 points, and Simmers did the same against Tyler Wright, who didn't find many waves. The Californian executed a good backside attack to score 14,66.
Tyler Wright's second straight win secured her a place in the WSL Finals for the first time in her career.
Meanwhile, Carissa Moore, who lost to Simmers in the semis, also secured a place in the decision that will be held in September in Lowers. The other third place was occupied by Caroline Marks.
Among the men, John John and Ryan Callinan tied for third, the yellow lycra now belongs to Filipe Toledo and Yago Dora moved into the top 5 with the win.
There are no guarantees for ending 5 as of yet.
