Ecuador dominated again at ALAS
Chila, Barona and Yáñez, all locals, won in open men, open women and junior respectively in the fourth stop of the circuit
Locals Jonathan Chila, Dominic Barona and Juan Pablo Yáñez won the open men, open women and junior categories of the fourth stage of the Latin surf circuit that took place on the waves of Esmeraldas, in northern Ecuador.
The third stop to be held on Ecuadorian soil, was once again won by locals. The two previous stops, held on two Galapagos islands, also had locals as champions (with the exception of the youth category).
Mimi Barona achieved her third consecutive victory in the ALAS, fifth in international events. She won the QS in Peru, the two ALAS in Galapagos, then the QS in Argentina and now the ALAS in Esmeraldas. If that is not a streak to change the bad start of the year she had in Australia, what is?

With this result, Barona took the lead in the rankings, displacing Brazilian Karol Ribeiro, who was third in the stage. The 2014 world champion, Analí Gómez, was second and Argentina's Coco Cianciarulo, fourth.
For his part, Jonathan “El Gato” Chila won the second consecutive stage and took the lead in the ranking. In the final he beat the legendary Martín Passeri, 2006 Latin champion, who at 42 years old continues to fight among the best on the continent.
Tied for third place were Lucas Madrid from Uruguay and another local, Israel Barona.
Galapagos local Juan Pablo Yáñez won the junior category, marking the first international victory for a local from the archipelago in an international event.
