Ecuador is present at the World Surfing Games
A team of four talented players from the country will seek the title in one of the most special World Cups in history
Presents the International Surfing Association
Dominic and Israel Barona, Gato Jonathan Chila Zambrano and Montañita's flying talent Alex Suárez will be the Ecuadorian representatives in one of the most special ISA World Surfing Games in history, which will take place in Miyazaki, Japan between September 7 and 15, the ISA reports on the event's website.
The team is not travelling in its entirety – there are six of them, three men and three women – but it has talents in its ranks who can fight for the title, especially the one who was runner-up in this same tournament in 2014, Dominic Mimi Barona.
But then there's the powerful backside of Gato Chila, the radical surfing of Israel Barona and the flying talent in small waves, Alex Suárez.
Ecuador finished 23rd in last year's World Surfing Games, the best member of the team was Israel Barona who finished 29th in the tournament.
The best position in history for Ecuadorians was fifth, which they obtained in 2014.
The presence of any American country in the tournament has no Olympic consequences (regional qualification was done through Lima 2019), but it will be decisive in establishing the seedings for the 2020 World Surfing Games, which are the second step in the hierarchy to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
