The Ecuadorian surfing federation has a new board of directors headed by businessman and surfer Bernardo Arosemena of Club Costa, the federation reported in a press release.

According to the institution, the new executive is a “highly competitive surfer from Guayaquil with a very good sports career, who has demonstrated great vision and dedication to the development of surfing.”

“The brand new Board of Directors includes very relevant people and athletes from the entire coast of Ecuador and the Galapagos, with a long history in surfing competitions, as well as outstanding professionals in industries and institutions in the country. There is a solid team, national surfing is in excellent hands,” said the new president.

Referring to what can be expected from his term, he said: “The vision of the new Board of Directors of the Federation is the training of athletes with principles, who exploit their growth to the maximum, obtaining a strength that comes from an indomitable will with the firm objective of achieving sporting success in the medium and long term.

To this end, a seed circuit is being planned, as well as a parallel national circuit aimed at professional surfing in Ecuador.

As Nelson Mandela said, 'Sport has the ability to change the world'. As a Federation we want to change the lives of many boys and girls, to inspire them, to be able to practice a unique and special sport, where in addition to high performance, they can achieve a sports career and practice an activity that connects people with nature, generating a very strong bond and a sense of responsibility for the care of it. We do not only want better athletes but also better human beings.

Another of the benefits of surfing is that it is a sport where there are no social barriers. Ecuador is full of natural courts for surfing and we have enormous potential with many towns on our coast. A clear example is Montañita, birthplace of champions, where Mimi Barona, the best exponent of Ecuador and one of the top in Latin America, is from,” he concluded.
