Egypt is the newest member of the ISA

There are now 111 members, of which 17 are African.

The Egyptian Surfing Association is now the newest member of the ISA, the 111th nation to join and the 17th from the African continent, the organization said in a statement sent to the press.

“The Egyptian Surfing Association (ESA) is responsible for the development of surfing across the country, including the organization and promotion of national surfing competitions and events. This also involves advancing the development of standup paddle (SUP) and other surfing disciplines,” the press release said.

“ESA will advocate for the continued inclusion of surfing in the Olympic Games and support the sport’s goal of joining other multi-sport events around the world. A priority mission of ESA is to celebrate and spread surfing culture among Egypt’s large youth population and encourage greater participation and enjoyment of the sport,” they added.

ESA President Omar Elsobky said: “We are very excited to join the ISA. This is a great moment for the expanding Egyptian surfing community and, following the sport’s stunning debut at the Tokyo Olympics, we believe we can build on this excitement and inspire many more to become surf athletes.”

“We want to see thousands of Egyptians, young and old, women and men, passionate about surfing and the unique culture that is embedded in this sport. We have stunning coastlines and great waves for all levels, so we look forward to developing an exciting surfing future for our country,” he added.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre said: “We are delighted to welcome one of the oldest civilisations, Egypt, to the newest and coolest Olympic sport. This is confirmation of the universal appeal of surfing and the expansion of the sport to new territories and continents.”
