El Salvador will once again host the ISA World Longboard Championship

It is the third international event 100% confirmed for 2024 in the country, adding to the youth world championship and the CT stage

For the second consecutive year, the waves of El Sunzal in El Salvador will host the International Surfing Association's world longboard championship, which will take place between April 18 and 25, the ISA announced in a press release.

In 2023, El Salvador marked the return of the ISA World Longboard Championships, which had not been held since 2019 and which had four editions in history. On that occasion, a record number of 118 surfers from 33 nations were present to compete there.

The event was won by France in the team and individual stages, with gold medals for Alice Lemoigne and Antoine Delpero.

“Sunzal is an incredible wave for longboarding. I am looking forward to seeing the world’s best longboarders return in 2024 after such a wonderful event in 2023. We are determined to see longboarding on the programme of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games and we have no doubt that the performances of these athletes will be worthy of inclusion on the sport’s biggest stage,” said Fernando Aguerre.

The announcement of the longboard world championship comes a few days after it was announced that the ISA junior world championship will return to the waves of La Bocana and El Sunzal between May 3 and 12.

In addition, the WSL CT stage has already been confirmed for June 6-15.

El Salvador held six international events in 2023 and according to statements to DUKE by the country's tourism minister, Morena Valdez, the idea is to maintain or increase the number of events. “President Bukele always sets a bar for us, we cannot go backwards,” he declared in November 2023.
