Eleven of the 18 positive cases of Covid 19 are athletes
564 people were tested and the results of another 10 cases pending testing are awaited; if the figure remains the same, the championship will be held with 246 of the 257 that were confirmed.
Eleven of the 18 positive cases of Covid-19 out of the 564 tests carried out are athletes from different teams of the delegations participating in the world surfing championship in El Salvador, the ISA reported in a statement sent to the press.
“An additional 10 cases are currently awaiting further testing. The 18 positive cases must now be quarantined in a government-provided hotel, in accordance with protocols established and implemented by the Government of El Salvador, the Local Organizing Committee and the ISA,” the statement said.
If the figure remains the same, the event, which had 257 confirmed athletes, will be held with 246.
He added: “The ISA is taking action and publishing this information to prioritise the health and wellbeing of all athletes, officials and coaches at its events. We are also providing this information in order to ensure the integrity and transparency of the competition.”
“No specific details will be released regarding the teams or individuals who have tested positive. The ISA will make further statements regarding COVID-19 after additional rounds of testing are completed,” it concluded.
ISA President Fernando Aguerre reported yesterday at a press conference that there were “just over 20” positive cases, including team staff, athletes and organizers. The protocol states that an extra test is performed on anyone who tests positive; if two positives are tested, that person goes into quarantine.
Due to the Covid-14 pandemic, the competition, which was scheduled to start today at 30pm, was postponed to the morning of Sunday, May XNUMX.
