Elfri Navarrete was elected president of FENTA, the institution reported
Opposition denounced irregularities in the electoral process
The official list for the presidency of the Peruvian surfing federation, FENTA, received the most votes in the elections held yesterday, according to information provided by FENTA on social media.
“We announce the brand new Board of Directors of the National Surfing Sports Federation - FENTA, elected by the Grassroots Organizations today,” says the text that introduces the new authorities:
President
Elfri Alfonso Navarrete Narro
Vice President
Aldo Paul Betetta Solimano
Treasurer
Denis Elias San Roman Fernandez
Secretary
Alberto Alejandro Chavez Chavez
Technical Member
Richard Wagner Navarrete Narro
Promotional Vocal
Mauricio Peru Torres Sanchez
On the other hand, the opposition, which had Ricardo Kaufman as its presidential candidate, denounced irregularities through a text sent via WhatsApp to DUKE through the president of the San Bartolo Club, César Barthelmes.
“Surf clubs are prevented from voting in FENTA elections. Scandal inside and outside polling station tarnishes surfers’ elections. IPD must take corrective action,” the message reads.
“Despite being up to date with their payments and having a Resolution from RENADE (national sports registry), the San Bartolo Surf Club was prevented from entering the ordinary assembly to vote for a new FENTA board of directors. Cesar Barthelmes, President of said Club and nationally recognized surfer, was attacked with insults and threats by hired thugs from FENTA,” they explain. They add: “The electoral act was clouded by the refusal of the current FENTA board of directors, who manipulated the elections with personnel close to them and intimidated the voters with thugs so as not to be defeated by list number 2, which was the favorite and enjoyed the support of the majority of the most representative and historic clubs at a national level.
This electoral assembly was poorly convened, the experts stated, because they wanted the board of directors to appoint the electoral committee, when the current statutes registered with RENADE order that it is the assembly made up of the clubs who elect the electoral committee among themselves, but not the board of directors.
“Another striking point of this rigged call is that the notices of the call were not sent to each club address, which is a mandatory condition according to the statutes of the Federation of Tabla and is proven by the signed charge by the representative of the club, which did not happen. Cesar Barthelmess, president of the San Bartolo Tabla Club, categorically rejected the conduct of the FENTA directors and of the candidate with the surname Navarrete, for having prevented him from entering to vote by detaining him with a paid army of thugs,” the text states.
And they add: Furthermore, Navarrete also defended the list where he was running since his brother Elfri Navarrete was the president of the list. It is a kind of nepotism, and it is unethical and even less moral to have relatives on a list where money granted by the Peruvian state is handled. The Peruvian Institute of Sport should take action on the matter and not approve or accept such an electoral violation and bad example that damages the honor of many Peruvians, witnessed by athletes of all ages.”
In the text they add that the candidate for treasurer for list 1, Denis San Román and the outgoing president Jaime Gensollen ignored the fact that certain people were not allowed to enter to vote and that members of the Chorrillos Surf Club, the Cangrejo club, Cerro Azul, the Barranca Surf club and Barranca Bodyboard were also not allowed to vote.
“Those who did get in were eight clubs recently formed these months, which entered without difficulty and voted with all the facilities for the official list 1. All this stains the sport of Surfing and demonstrates the lust for power when they confuse what belongs to others with private property, in addition to having had a terrible management and being observed by the sports justice for faults in the sports law. A striking case was the presence of a lawyer who manipulated the elections apparently without knowledge of the sports law who responded to the surname La Jara, who according to the representatives of clubs interfered in functions that did not correspond to him and gave orders,” the text concludes.
