Event in honor of Oscar Moncada will take place in Puerto Escondido in August

The WSL's post-Puerto Challenge revamp is making waves. Days after finishing a successful event at the venue, another one is already being announced.

A new tube and heavy wave event will take place at the most famous beach break in the world, Zicatela, during the month of August, several local surfers and communicators and the organizers themselves reported on social media.

The Mex Pipe Warriors will honor local hero and one of the best surfers in Puerto Escondido history, Oscar Moncada, who tragically lost his life in a car accident in November of last year.

“Puerto Escondido (Oaxaca) will host the Mexpipe Warriors, an international event that seeks to crown the best heavy pipe surfers in one of the most important beach breaks in the world. August will be the month of this great event in memory of the legend Óscar Moncada,” says the Facebook profile of the championship.

As shown by the various posters and the teaser video, the championship will bring together tube riders, masters and guests… There are not many more details, but after a high-voltage Sunday in which Lucas Chumbo and Bianca Valenti won the Puerto Cup, the action is far from stopping in Zicatela.

This year, Puerto Escondido was informed that there would be no more WSL events there, but instead it received a new lineup of organizers who wanted to host different events. For now, instead of one, there are two championships in Puerto.
